Daydreamin' (feat. Jill Scott)

[Chorus: Jill Scott]
Daydream
I fell asleep beneath the flowers
For a couple of hours
On a beautiful day
Daydream
I dream of you amid the flowers
For a couple of hours
Such a beautiful day

[Verse #1: Lupe Fiasco]
As I spy from behind my giant robot's eyes
I keep him happy cause I might fall out if he cries
Scared of heights so I might pass out if he flies
Keep him on autopilot cause I can't drive
Room enough for one, I tell my homies they can't ride
Unless they sittin' on the shoulders, but that's way too high
Let's try, not to step on the children
The news cameras filmin'
This walkin', project buildin'
Now there's hoes sellin hoes like right around the toes
And the crackheads beg at about the lower leg
There's crooked police that's stationed at the knees
And they do drive-by's like, up and down the thighs
And there's a car chase goin' on at the waist
Keep a vest on my chest
I'm sittin in my room as I'm lookin out the face
Somethin' to write about
I still got some damage from fightin' the White House, just a...

[Chorus: Jill Scott]
Daydream
I fell asleep beneath the flowers
For a couple of hours
On a beautiful day
Daydream
I dream of you amid the flowers
For a couple of hours
Such a beautiful day

[Verse #2: Lupe Fiasco]
Now come on everybody, let's make cocaine cool
We need a few more half naked women up in the pool
And hold this MAC-10 that's all covered in jewels
And can you please put your titties closer to the 22s?
And where's the champagne? We need champagne
Now look as hard as you can with this blunt in your hand
And now, hold up your chain slow motion through the flames
Now cue the smoke machines and the simulated rain
But not too loud cause the baby's sleepin'
I wonder if it knows what the world is keepin'
Up both sleeves while he lay there dreamin'
Me and my robot tip-toe 'round creepin'
I had to turn my back on what got you paid
I couldn't see, had the hood on me like Abu Ghraib
But I'd like to thank the streets that drove me crazy
And all the televisions out there that raised me, I was...

[Chorus: Jill Scott]
Daydream
I fell asleep beneath the flowers
For a couple of hours
On a beautiful day
Daydream
I dream of you amid the flowers
For a couple of hours
Such a beautiful day

[Chorus: Jill Scott]
Daydream
I fell asleep beneath the flowers
For a couple of hours
On a beautiful day
Daydream
I dream of you amid the flowers
For a couple of hours
Such a beautiful day

  1. Lyrically, this is my favorite Lupe song. The Robot-Project Building metaphor is amazing, and then he describes to fake shit that he sees on tv. This song is one of his best.

But, I was wondering what the meaning was behind the last line of the 1st verse(I still got some damage from fightin' the White House)? I've never been able to figure that one out...

  2. That last verse always confused me too. I always thought is was a coke reference, but I don't know if he ever sold or tried coke, so.........

  3. wowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowow!!!!

after YEARS of listenin to this song n knowin how hot it is, it finally hit me! this song is truly a masterpiece work of art!!!

i never truly understood how the 2 verses fit wit eachother until just now, and the hook seemed kind of random until i analyzed the song as a whole.

in the 1st verse, lupe is literally daydreamin. thats y he has this whole movie-like description of a project buildin. the projects/ghettos of america have all these flaws and ills, but he uses a robot to show that people view the troubles of our society as just a daydream, which is y they do little to change it. the 2nd verse, he wakes up n is the "director" of a rap video. the 2nd verse is the real daydream, bcuz wat is portrayed on tv is the real fascade, none of it is real, but we as a society glamorize n adore it.

1st verse = real, but ignored like its a daydream

2nd verse = complete fraud, but glamorized n adored

no wonder this song won a grammy...

"I still got some damage from fightin' the White House"

The whole verse is describing things as body parts. When he says white house he's talking about where the president lives, the top or the head of it all. The white house could represent his mind that takes in all the stuff around him, the elites at the very top who control everything (the crooked police, the crackheads, etc), or the law itself. I always left it open to debate, but that's my two cents.

  5. no...no...

"I still got some damage from fightin' the White House"

okay lu choose a "project" robot building.. dats where he is from..

people in the projects are poor..and they feel they are hated by the government...

so lupe is sayin he dosent like the U.S. government..

he is controlling the robot to fuck up government(White House)..

the White House is a robot aswell..
    (controlled by BUSH i guess)

so he fought the government(G.W.Bush)and loss..
